September 9th 2001 I flew from Virginia Beach to Cape Cod and back for the
Coast Guard in my 182. We flew home via the Long Island Sound and then
down the Hudson River. There is a VFR corridor along the river. Stay
below 1100 feet and above the water and you are out of controlled airspace.
I did not take any pictures. Then it was closed. November 26, 2002 I
made the same flight, and I took my camera. It wasn't until we were flying
north over NYC that we asked if the river route was open. The controllers
for the New York City airspace
said yes and we made it down the river this time with pictures.
Anyone with knowledge of the city please do send some information to identify
the buildings etc. in the photos. Thanks and enjoy our Freedom of Flight!

The controller over Long Island Sound said ok to going to the Hudson River, but he did not promiss the City Controllers would have time for us. |

It had been clear all day but now we were under a high layer cloud deck. |

Once at the river the City controller said we could go down the river at any altitude we wanted. We wanted 900 feet which is out of his airspace. |

It was nice to be able to do this again. |
